Our Mission

BuyingNerd exists to help everyday people make smarter tech purchases. We publish honest, unbiased reviews and buying guides covering laptops, smartphones, smart home devices, audio gear, and everything in between. Our goal is simple: cut through the marketing noise and give you straightforward answers about what is actually worth your money. We believe that good tech advice should be accessible to everyone, not just industry insiders.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial content is never influenced by advertisers, sponsors, or affiliate partnerships. No company can pay for a favorable review on BuyingNerd, and no advertiser has approval rights over our content. Our reviewers are free to praise or criticize any product based on their honest experience. If a product falls short, we say so plainly, regardless of whether the manufacturer advertises with us or provides review units. This independence is the foundation of our credibility, and we guard it carefully.

How We Test and Review Products

We take a hands-on approach to every review we publish. Wherever possible, we use products in real-world conditions over an extended period rather than relying solely on spec sheets or press releases. For laptops, that means running benchmarks but also using them for actual work, travel, and entertainment. For headphones, it means wearing them on commutes, at the gym, and at a desk. We pay attention to the details that matter in daily life: battery longevity after a few weeks, build quality over time, software update reliability, and customer support responsiveness. When we cannot test a product firsthand, we clearly state that our assessment is based on specifications, user reports, and industry analysis.

Our Rating Methodology

Every product we review receives a rating on a 10-point scale. Our scores reflect the overall value a product offers for its target audience and price point. We evaluate products across several criteria, weighted by category: performance, build quality, features, ease of use, and value for money. A budget laptop is judged by budget laptop standards, not compared directly against a premium workstation. We reserve scores of 9 and above for products that genuinely excel and offer outstanding value. A score of 7 represents a solid product worth considering, while anything below 5 indicates significant issues. We revisit and may adjust scores if major software updates or price changes substantially alter a product value.

Corrections Policy

We are committed to getting things right, and when we get something wrong, we fix it. If we discover an error in a published article, whether it involves an incorrect specification, a factual mistake, or a broken link, we correct it promptly. Significant corrections are noted at the top or bottom of the article with a brief explanation of what was changed and when. Minor fixes like typos or formatting adjustments are made without a formal correction notice. If you spot an error in any of our content, please reach out to us at contact@buyingnerd.com and we will look into it.

Content Freshness

Technology changes quickly, and a buying guide that was accurate six months ago may not reflect today best options. We review and update our most popular articles on a regular basis to ensure they reflect current pricing, availability, and new product releases. Each article displays a Last Updated date so you can see when it was most recently reviewed. If a product we recommended has been discontinued or significantly changed, we update our recommendation accordingly. Our goal is to make sure that whenever you land on a BuyingNerd article, the advice you find is still relevant and useful.
